The Friday Fast Lane: the electric ute you have always wanted

Friday, 12 October 2018

This week in the Fast Lane; Bollinger want to build you an electric ute. Go on, we know you want one.

The electric ute you have always wanted

Wanting to make the switch to an electric vehicle, but still need a ute? Then you could (almost) be in luck (soon, maybe one day)!

Bollinger, manufacturers of the brilliantly utilitarian B1 electric hardcore off road SUV (and not the champagne) are very keen to extend the concept into the pick up segment. Literally extend it, that is.

The utilitarian Bollinger B2 is no nonsense and seriously cool. And all-electric.
The utilitarian Bollinger B2 is no nonsense and seriously cool. And all-electric.

The B2 is a pick up concept version of the B1 SUV that exists only as renderings at this stage and features all of the SUVs extremely capable off road abilities, but adds some serious commitment to load hauling.

Not only will the rear window be able to be raised (and an internal 'tailgate' dropped) to increase the tray area inside the cabin, the lack of an engine up front will also mean that massively long loads can be passed right through the cabin!

Oh, yeah, it also gets the B1's 380kW dual electric motor set up and 320km range. Nice.

It doesn't get more British than an Aston Martin owned by Roger Daltrey. Now you can buy it.

Way back to the future

Not content with still making cars the very old way (the Aero 8 from 2001 was their first car to feature an aluminium frame, as opposed to a steel chassis with a wooden body tub) the Morgan Motor Company has regressed even further into the history of transport and now started producing a range of bicycles.

While they are admittedly very retro-cool, we think we will wait until they reach the logical conclusion of this regression and put out a Morgan-branded horse.

It's mental, but in a very good way

While searching for video for our road test of the utterly mad Range Rover Sport SVR, we came across this video that sums the madness up nicely.

Unfortunately it was for the previous model, so we couldn't use it on the road test, but it was simply too good not to share - behold: the Range Rover Sport SVR doing 0 to 100 runs on a bunch of different surfaces…

No Mr. Bond, I expect you to not get fooled again!

Are you a of James Bond's rides? Partial to a bit of classic rock?

Well then, the perfect car for you could be about to head to auction in the UK - an early 1979 Aston Martin V8 Volante owned by legendary rock star and The Who front man, Roger Daltrey, will be offered for public sale for the first time at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale on 10th and 11th November in Birmingham.

The car is gorgeous, with a peerless rock history heritage, but we have serious concerns about the classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions Arwel Richards' knowledge of rock.

'A car owned by an icon in rock music history is a very special offering' he said. 'This classic Aston has been incredibly well cared for and presents to a wonderful standard, even after being owned by a gentleman known for smashing his instruments.'

Except that it was guitarist Pete Townsend and drummer Keith Moon who were more known for the smashing…
