You Pick A Side: hot desking yeah or nah?
Thursday, 21 May 2026
Stuff’s weekly series diving into the small, everyday topics that get people talking.
There’s no shortage of big issues to debate — but what about the little ones that spark surprisingly strong opinions?
Each week, we’ll put up a simple question, make the case for both sides, and let you decide. Vote in the poll, or have your say in the comments.
So … pick a side.
Hot desking pros: You get to sit next to whomever you want on any given day, or avoid people you dislike. It keeps the desks free of clutter because you must pack down each day and you get to arrive at work to a tidy desk every day.
Hot desking cons: Having to share a mouse/keyboard with others (germs, yuck), your fave desk might already be taken when you get to work, you don't get to 'claim' your own space and keep things like photos on your desk, you don't get to leave all your stuff out at the end of the day and return the next day to find everything as you left it, and you might face anxiety over where you're going to sit every day as you arrive at work.
Have your say in the comments and let us know if you have any topics you want discussed. If you’re using the Stuff app on iOS you’ll need to view Stuff.co.nz on a browser to view and post comments.
