Rhythm and Vines: Ice Spice tops 2024 lineup

Rhythm and Vines will this year run from December 29 to January 1.

New York rapper Ice Spice, UK garage and house producer Sammy Virji and Kiwi music hero Sir Dave Dobbyn will be lighting up Gisborne’s New Year’s party Rhythm and Vines.

The acts were the first performers named by event organisers to attend the 22nd edition, kicking off this year on December 29.

Also heading to the event at Waiohika Estate are Italian electronic supergroup Meduza, British electronic producers Koven and the return of American record producer RL Grime.

Other Kiwi acts include Sachi, Messie, and a debut performance from the award winning Corrella.

Ice Spice is an American rapper from the Bronx, New York City. She began her musical career in 2021 while studying in college after meeting producer RiotUSA. Described as a 'breakout star' and 'rap's new princess,' she has won numerous awards, including the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, the People's Choice Award for New Artist of the Year, and the Impact Award from the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

Since 2003, over 350,000 people have attended Rhythm and Vines new year festivals.

She has also received four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist. Her debut performance at Rhythm and Vines will be a NZ exclusive, organisers said.

The Don of UK Garage Sammy Virji is back for his second appearance at Rhythm and Vines.

The London-born artist has been responsible for some of the very finest UK garage and bass house rhythms, including 'Daga Da', 'Find My Way Home', 'Never Let You Go', and 'Shella Verse'.

Organisers say there will be about 100 performers at this year’s event and say it will be “spicy”.
