NZ Post staff have been offered voluntary redundancies or the opportunity to work a four-day week.

As it moves into its busiest time of year, chief executive David Walsh said NZ Post was reviewing the structure and size of its manager and specialist functions.

This was to “ensure they continue to support our operations well”.

“As part of this review, NZ Post has opened expressions of interest for voluntary redundancies, as well as asking for expressions of interest for a four-day working week.”

Stuff understands NZ Post was aiming to achieve a $35 to $40 million reduction in cost this financial year. A document would be released mid October to staff on what costs will be cut.

The four day work week would result in a pay cut for staff that opted for it. As it was currently open for expressions of interest, Walsh could not say how many people would be affected.

“Like a large number of other businesses, we are focused on being commercially sustainable while responding to ongoing economic headwinds.

“Any potential changes following this process would be communicated to our people in the first instance, and supporting them is our main priority,' he said.
