Countdown working through backlog of online shopping orders after 'technical difficulty'
Tuesday, 9 August 2022
A technical glitch has caused a backlog of Countdown online shopping orders.
The supermarket, which offers online shopping for pickup or delivery, suffered the glitch on Monday afternoon. Orders were put on hold and new orders could not be placed through the afternoon.
“Yesterday afternoon, a network outage meant we weren’t able to process online orders for pickup or delivery,” a Countdown spokesperson said.
The issue was fixed at about 8.40pm.

“We’ve moved all of yesterday’s affected online orders to delivery and pick up slots today, and are contacting affected customers to let them know. Tomorrow's slots are now open for booking new online orders.”
The outage also affected the supermarket’s Onecard system and the spokesperson said it was currently looking at how it could automatically issue any missed points to customers.
“We’ll be in touch as soon as we have a solution for this. If anyone has a specific concern about their Onecard points, they should reach out to our Customer Care team who will be happy to help.”
Countdown opened the country's first dedicated online store in Auckland in response to rapid growth in online sales two years ago.
Countdown’s online sales annual profit jumped by 28% to $861 million last year, accounting for just over 12% of the supermarket group’s total revenues of $7.1 billion, while the value of goods sold through its tills fell by $241m, or 4%.
