Microsoft services crash in global outage
Tuesday, 29 September 2020
Microsoft is continuing to monitor its cloud-based services after a global outage left users locked out of their accounts on Tuesday.
Microsoft Office 365, Outlook and Teams were reportedly affected, with some people unable to access the services for more than four hours.
In a Tweet posted at midday, the company said a recent code change appeared to be the cause of the outage, which began about 11am.
The change was rolled back, however problems continued into the afternoon, leading Microsoft to divert traffic through “alternative infrastructure”.

By 3:20pm it said the majority of services were back online for most users, with some problems continuing in North America.
Web services like meetings platform Teams have been vital as people work from home during the coronavirus outbreak.
In April, Microsoft said the number of daily active users on Teams had jumped from 44 million to 75 million.
It also reported 258 million paid “seats” or subscriptions for Office 365, which includes access to Teams.
