H&M opening in Westfield Newmarket in December

The first stage of the $790 million Westfield development in Newmarket, Auckland opened in August.

Swedish retailer H&M will be opening its fourth Auckland store in Westfield Newmarket by the end of the year.

The fast fashion giant said it was looking to hire 50 staff, from retail staff to 'visual merchandisers' and managers, for the new two-level store that will open on December 12.

H&M New Zealand country sales manager Daniel Lattemann said the 2300 square metre store will feature the usual apparel sections and a homewares section.

​Lattemann said the home section had been popular with customers.

H&M entered the New Zealand market in 2016 and had seven stores across the country and two in the pipeline; Westfield Newmarket and Westfield Riccarton in Christchurch which was expected to open in November.

H&M opened its largest NZ store in Auckland's Commercial Bay featuring a homeware department and four levels of clothing and appare, last year.

The retailer has still not set up an online website for New Zealand.

The $790 million Newmarket mall opened its first stage after 18 months of construction last month.

The first stage opened with 40 stores including Farmers, Chemist Warehouse and Australian furniture brand Coco Republic's first New Zealand store. By Christmas, Westfield Newmarket would have 230 shopping, food, beauty and entertainment stores across its 88,150 sqm site.
