How many people receive benefits in New Zealand?

The number of working age people receiving benefits has slightly increased since last year. 

Ministry of Social Development records show there were 277,410 people aged between 18 to 64 years on a main benefit in June 2018, about 1000 more people than a year ago. 

However, there are fewer people on the benefit since 2013.

Five years ago, there were more than 304,000 Kiwis receiving the benefit.
