Wednesday, 26 February 2020

Guoquan (Laurence) Wu has been missing since March 10. His family are urging the public for any information on his disappearance.

Family have been left without answers after the search for a young Auckland man was called off.

Guoquan Wu, 22, also known as Laurence, was reported missing on March 12, 2019 but almost a year later police have called off the search.

He was last seen about 1.40pm on March 10 at St Lukes Liquor Centre in Auckland.

Wu's brother, Lucas, said they have not had any developments.

Earlier in the year the family offered a $200,000 dollar reward for any information that led to the finding of Laurence.

Wu previously told Stuff his 'brother is a happy one, funny - a little bit' and was not the type to harm himself.

Auckland City Police Sergeant Tania Kingi said despite extensive efforts, no information led to Laurence being found and all lines of enquiry have been exhausted.

'The police staff involved in this investigation wanted nothing more than to be able to provide the answers that the family so desperately seeks at this time, and it is unfortunate that we have not been able to achieve this, despite our best efforts.'

Multiple searches were carried out across Piha and the wider Waitākere area, Kingi said.

Police also examined the contents of his vehicle, which was found at Piha beach, including his laptop.

The matter was not being treated as suspicious and there was no evidence of foul play.

The case has been referred to the coroner.
