Current Auckland mayor Phil Goff has been confirmed he's running a second time.

Twenty-one Aucklanders have put their hats in the ring to become mayor the super city this year, including current mayor Phil Goff.

The preliminary list of candidates was published by Auckland Council on Friday.

August 16 was also the last day for people to enrol for papers to vote in October's local body elections.

Most of the candidates are running as independents.
