Auckland airport's runway reopens after closing for 'urgent repairs', affecting flights

Flights into Auckland airport were unable to land due for a period on Friday to damage to the landing zone of the runway.

A spokesman for the airport said at 7.30pm the runway was closed while 'urgent repairs' were required.

'We have a maintenance team on-site right now. All flights to Auckland are affected at this time.'

The spokesman said surface damage had occurred to the runway in a 'small section'.

At 8pm the spokesman said the runway had reopened and operations had resumed.
