Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been photographed with what appears to be a large bruise on his face while driving near his Sandringham residence.

The 66-year-old former Duke of York was seen behind the wheel of his Land Rover close to Marsh Farm on Thursday, accompanied by another man and a dog, reported the Sun.

The images show a large red mark extending across his right cheek and around his eye. The mark wraps around his eye and covers much of his cheek in photographs.

The cause of the blemish has not been confirmed. However, The Times reported it is understood to be linked to a “non-serious medical issue”.

Dressed in a pink shirt and blue jacket, the former prince has rarely appeared in public in recent weeks, the Sun reported, particularly since last month’s security scare.

Mountbatten-Windsor was allegedly approached in a threatening manner by a masked man while walking the late Queen Elizabeth II’s corgis on the Sandringham estate, reported the Sun.

A 39-year-old man, Alex Jenkinson, has since been charged with two counts of using threatening or abusive behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.

Jenkinson reportedly ran at and shouted at Andrew, forcing the former prince to flee down a country lane to his car. He was said to be shaken and drove away at speed, later calling for his taxpayer-funded security to be reinstated, the Guardian reported.

The disgraced former Duke lost his taxpayer-funded protection in August 2024, when King Charles removed the security amid the fallout from the Epstein scandal.

Mountbatten-Windsor is reported to have moved to the private Sandringham retreat, around 160km north of London, after leaving his long-time home near Windsor Castle following allegations linking him to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, the New York Post reported.

He was forced to give up his remaining titles last year, including the title of Duke of York, after it emerged he had stayed in touch with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein longer than he previously admitted, reported the Herald.

It was revealed that the Metropolitan Police was “actively looking into” claims that Andrew passed his alleged teenage sex abuse victim’s private information to his protection officer.
