King Charles’ health: Queen Camilla gives update ahead of operation next week
Yesterday it was announced the King will undergo surgery next week, now Queen Camilla has given the public a health update.
The 75-year-old monarch is due to have surgery next week on an enlarged prostate and Camilla has revealed he is “fine” and already “looking forward” to being able to resume his duties.
Asked about the King by the Lord Provost on a visit to the Aberdeen Art Gallery yesterday, she said: “He’s fine, thank you very much. Looking forward to getting back to work.”
Camilla was at the gallery to open a new ‘Safe Space’, which would provide help and guidance to people if they are concerned someone is experiencing domestic abuse.
Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday that the King will receive hospital treatment for the benign condition next week.
A royal spokesperson said: “In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.
“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.
“The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”
The announcement came less than two hours after it was revealed the King’s daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, was to spend 10-14 days in hospital for planned abdominal surgery and is unlikely to return to official duties until Easter.
A statement from Kensington Palace explained: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.
“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
No more details about the princess’ medical condition have been disclosed.
The statement added: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
Catherine’s husband Prince William - who is also taking a break from royal duties to look after his wife and their children, Princes George and Louis, 10 and 5, and 8-year-old Princess Charlotte - was spotted visiting her at The London Clinic on Thursday.
