Golden Globes 2024: Rose McIver announces first pregnancy on red carpet

The Golden Globes red carpet made a comeback in 2023 after a two-year hiatus, during which the awards show was scaled down to a streaming-only event with not a host or carpet to be seen.
But in 2024, the 81st Golden Globes are starting off award season early, with TV and film stars having taken to the carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at 12.30pm (NZT) on January 8 including Kiwi actress Rose McIver who appears to have made a huge announcement.
The New Zealand born actress first appeared on screens in Power Rangers in 2009 before moving on to bigger projects including Netflix’s A Christmas Prince in 2017 and CBS’ biggest hit comedies, Ghosts, now she’s revealed her biggest project of all, motherhood.

While McIver isn’t up for any nominations at tonight’s Golden Globes, she has already stolen the show by announcing her pregnancy on the carpet just months after marrying her boyfriend of six years, George Byrne.
Stepping onto the carpet in a sheer Gucci gown accessorised with Kallati jewellery, the 35 year old actress was all smiles as she gently cradled her going baby bump.
It comes after the star appeared on The Talk in May 2023 where she spoke about her private wedding to Byrne, “We got married in January, January 2. It was, yeah, really lovely. We eloped…It was so nice,” she told the show hosts.
Following the couple’s quiet New York courthouse wedding, the pair travelled to New Zealand to celebrate with McIver’s family with the star telling the talk show hosts, “It was so good to be home. It was very off-grid.”
She also shared that the long-term couple continued on to Australia where they spent time with her husband’s family who have a farm in Tasmania, “we spent a lot of time on a farm in Tasmania with my in-laws. which was great. But very little hair brushing went on, or any sort of self-care,” she said.
The actress is originally from Titirangi. She also returned in 2021 in-between Covid lockdowns where she spent time with family.
At the time, her local agents told the Herald she was welcomed by her family with a cardboard sign on her bed reading “Haere mai Aunty Rosie & Uncle Jerry” - referring to her husband.
McIver also visited the beach at Piha and attended a Crowded House concert in Hamilton with her brother Paul, where the she thanked Neil and Liam Finn on Instagram for an amazing show.
And she showed off Kiwi fashion talent to her 600,000 Instagram followers by wearing designers Ruby and Penny Sage in social media posts.
