One dead, three injured after crash in Loburn

One person has died and three others injured following a single-vehicle crash in Loburn this morning.

Emergency services were called to Loburn Whiterock Rd, near the intersection of Barkers Rd shortly after 10am.

Senior Sergeant Chris Wakelin said one person died at the scene, while another was critically hurt.

"Two other occupants received moderate injuries," he said.

St John said it sent three ambulances, one helicopter, one rapid response unit, and one manager to the scene.

"Our crews have assessed and treated four patients; two in a moderate condition and one in a serious condition who have been transported via road, and one in a critical condition who has been airlifted, all to Christchurch hospital," a St John spokesperson said.

Wakelin said the road was blocked and would remain closed for "some time" as the Serious Crash Unit carries out a scene examination.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
